Developing Medical Devices of Social Relevance Share

Introduction:

Centre for System Design, NITK Surathkal has been working with medical practitioners on developing various medical devices of social relevance. The current project involves research on the problem statement provided by Dr. Akash Raj, Dental surgeon, Dental Health Care, New Udupi. The team of faculty who will be involved in the research on the development of the medical devices are Dr. Ranjith M, Associate Professor, Dept of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Deepak Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical engineering under the guidance of Prof. K V Gangadharan, Coordinator, Center for System Design, NITK. The research project will be coordinated by Dr. Bijuna C Mohan, Associate Professor, School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management.

Problem Statement

Developing a medical device related to dentists which has a potential to touch many lives.

Duration of the Project

The project will be for a duration of 15 months

Objectives:

1. To develop a dental device for the general public which will be helpful to prevent dental health issues.

2. To develop a dental device that will be helpful for the bed ridden and mentally retarded and the general public in maintaining oral health.

Project Implementation:

? The project team will include Dr. Akash Raj, Dental surgeon, Dental Health Care, New Udupi.

? The team of faculty from NITK on the development of the medical devices are Dr. Ranjith M, Associate Professor, Dept of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Deepak Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering

? A group of NITK students will work on the two projects

? The project will be under the guidance of Prof. K V Gangadharan, Coordinator, Center for System Design, NITK. The research project will be coordinated by Dr. Bijuna C Mohan, Associate Professor, School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management.

? The drawings, designs, technology, ideas, processes, inventions, copyrights and patent received shall be the whole and exclusive property of NITK Surathkal and Dr.Akash Raj.

Expected Outcomes:

? A medical device that will solve and prevent the most common dental lesion among the public.

? A medical device which would be very helpful to the bed ridden and or mentally retarded people.
